Grace is an Internationally Certified Natural Henna Artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.

She was first introduced to henna by her local community in Fremont, California. Often a reciever of henna, she appreciated the art form and grew up learning about the different cultural customs surrounding the tradition. Being surrounded by henna, she learned that it is a unique art form that transcends cultural boundaries and is used in times of celebration.

After attending Zentangle training and teaching her students in the classroom, she recieved henna from another henna artist in her community. She noticed that many of the patterns in Zentangle were present in henna. From there, she decided to try her hand at sharing the tradition of body adornment and celebration with others.

Her passion grew and Grace dedicated herself into her craft by educating herself on the cultural roots and history of henna and best practices through attending henna conferences, private lessons, self-study, and certifications.

In the interests of keeping her clients safe, Grace makes her own henna paste with all-natural ingredients, ensuring that her clients are safe from potentially harmful exposure to chemical henna, black henna, or "emergency cones."

Grace is an elementary school teacher who loves traveling, rabbits, cooking, hula hooping, art, and helping others. She loves that henna is traditionally used across many cultures as a way to adorn the body and connect with others.

    Before Your Appointment:

    • Notify your henna artist if you have any allergies, skin conditions/sensitivities, open wounds, g6pd deficiency (read more), are pregnant or breast-feeding, or any other concerns that you may have.
    • Waxing, manicures, and pedicures should be done 1-2 days BEFORE your appointment for best results. The lotions and exfoliation will interfere with your developing stain.
    • Exfoliate 1-2 days BEFORE your appointment for the best stain.
    • Spray tan AFTER your henna. The chemicals will block staining.
    • If you are getting henna on your hands or feet, it would be best to arrange for someone to drive you to/from your appointment.
    • Dress comfortably and wear clothes that will not smudge your henna as you move around.
    • On the day of your appointment, DO NOT apply lotion/oil to the area you are applying henna. It will create a barrier that will interfere with your henna stain.

    Aftercare:

    • TL;DR - Keep it on, keep it warm, take it off, keep it dry!
    • Avoid smudges by letting your henna dry completely. Keep it on for 4-12+ hours for best results.
    • For best results, keep your henna warm. Avoid sweating as it can smudge and cause your stain to look blurry or ruined.
    • Gently brush the paste off with your fingers or a flat object such as a credit card. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR PASTE WITH WATER! Use any natural oil (such as olive oil) to soften stubborn areas.
    • Avoid water, showers, hot tubs, etc. for the next 12-24 hours. Water will prevent your stain from developing and reaching its full potential.
    • After paste removal your stain will be a light orange color. Depending on your body chemistry and how well you follow aftercare, the stain will gradually develop and mature into a dark brown over the next 24-48 hours.
    • Avoid excessive soaking in water, soaps, scrubbing, petroleum based products, and sunscreen as it will cause your stain to fade. You can protect your design by using a natural oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, or shea butter before exposure to water.
    • If properly cared for, your henna stain will last from 5-14 days depending on the area of the body, individual body chemistry, and any medications you may be taking.
